About the Game

You never go on a mission yourself. As the Operator of the Shadow Bureau, you decide who does.

Shadow Bureau Operator is an idle management game – incremental, with a clicker at its core – set in the Protectors of Balance universe. You run the Bureau from a cockpit of five monitors: scan passing signals for credits, hire the Garde, recruit and train Protectors, and send them on missions.

It is a free prototype that runs in your browser – no download, in English and German. Play free in your browser on itch.io.

• 🛡️ Protector Hub: Recruit Protectors and train them.
• 🎯 Mission Control: Brief your Protectors and send them on missions.
• 🎲 The Odds Up Front: Every mission shows its odds before you commit. A failed one can leave a Protector injured, or captured and waiting for an extraction run – nobody dies.
• ⭐ Renown Between Shifts: End your shift, spend Renown on permanent upgrades and start the next one stronger.
• 🌙 Offline Progress: Close the tab and come back later – the Bureau keeps working for up to 8 hours while you are gone.

Shadow Bureau Operator is the first of four free Protectors of Balance prototypes we are releasing this November, one a week:
